Since foveal (central) vision, perceived through the area of the retina with the best resolution, is very narrow (e.g., Millodot, 1965), drivers need to acquire relevant information with not only central vision but also peripheral vision (e.g., Miura, 1992). To drive a car safely, drivers must perceive relevant objects (e.g., traffic signs, pedestrians, and cars) quickly and accurately in a dynamically changing environment.
